The VP of Programs is responsible for all of our ongoing programs, such as Art Docent, Classic Books, School Play, and other program committees.

The VP’s of Events are responsible for planning our Welcome Back Celebration and other PTA event committees.

The VP of Publications is responsible for the Directory, Yearbook, and other PTA publications.

Our Treasurer can answer all your budget related questions, as well as provide donation receipts for tax purposes.

The Secretary is responsible for the minutes for PTA Board & General Membership Meetings.

After School Arts Program (ASAP): VP Programs or Mary Pat Seeman, asap@erpta.org

ASAP classes are Mondays 3:15-4:45 - October through November for 6 weeks .  ASAP is an enrichment program dedicated to fostering artistic development as experienced through hands-on activity and fun.  Classes extend across a broad range of artistic expression as well as physical activity and critical thinking focused classes.  There is something for everyone!   Click here to Register for Classes: ASAP Home.

Advocacy and Legislation: President or Kirsten Taniguchi, advocacy@erpta.org

Do you want to make a difference by advocating for the students of East Ridge and Washington State? It’s easy – and important – to get involved! Attend school board meetings, stay abreast Washington State PTA educational initiatives. This is where we can put our PTA motto “Every child. One Voice” into action. Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly is October 14th-15th in Olympia.

Skills or Interests: educational reform or legislation at the school district, state, and national level; helping to inform parents of relevant educational legislation.


Art Docent: VP Programs or Julie Amer, artdocent@erpta.org

The Art Docent Program is a Northshore District/PTA-sponsored in-class arts education program staffed by parent volunteers. Curriculum and training are provided.  No prior arts experience is needed.  Click here for Registration:

Skills or Interests: art appreciation, creative arts, classroom interaction


Financial Review Committee: President or president@erpta.org

This three member committee reviews and issues a report on the PTA financial books twice yearly – once in February and once in July.

Skills or Interests: record keeping, balancing bank accounts, attention to financial details


Welcome Back Celebration: VP Events or welcomeback@erpta.org

A time for community interaction in a celebratory atmosphere:  games, music, bouncy houses, and more. Our family welcome back event will be held 5:30-7:30pm on Friday September 16th.

Skills or Interests: party planning, organizing volunteers, promotion, gathering supplies, set-up, decorations, take-down.


Birthday Book Club: VP Programs or Janet Beachem, library@erpta.org

Classic Books: VP Programs or Laura Blaskovich, classicbooks@erpta.org

This book club for children in grades 3 through 6 provides opportunities for elementary students to discuss literature in small groups, with parent volunteers, during recess. Volunteers are trained to prepare questions and maintain active discussions. Starts late Winter or early Spring term, 2012.

Skills or Interests: reading classic literature, facilitating small student group discussions.


Directory: VP Publications or Nancy Nygren, directory@erpta.org

The Directory is published and distributed in the fall, after Northshore School District releases contact information.

Skills or Interests: database entry/maintenance, data verification, layout and design work, proof-reading and editing.


Directory Advertising: VP Publications or Lisa Hall, directory_adverts@erpta.org

Our PTA and Directory is made possible by donations by local and East Ridge family businesses. This committee solicits advertising and designs printed ads in the directory.

Skills or Interests: soliciting advertisers, sales, collection of sales income, database maintenance, ad design and layout work.


Emergency Preparedness*: VP Programs or Laura Blaskovich, emergencyprep@erpta.org

Volunteers will work with the Chairs to update the crisis box and emergency preparedness procedures in conjunction with the East Ridge staff. Come check our Emergency Prep page!

Skills or Interests: Maintaining the Organization of supplies on ER campus, implementing disaster drills, purchasing of supplies.

Skills or Interests: Help gather and count box tops in your child’s classroom.


Field Day: VP Events or fieldday@erpta.org

The kids get to participate in outdoor games and activities before school lets out for the summer. This year it is scheduled for June 2012.

Skills or Interests: event planning, large and small group games, prizes, water stations, face paint, field set-up and take-down.


Friends of the Library: VP Programs or Janet Beachem, library@erpta.org

Historian/Yearbook: VP Publications or yearbook@erpta.org

This committee is responsible for gathering photos from East Ridge families and at East Ridge events in order to create the annual Yearbook and DVD.

Skills or Interests: photography, yearbook publication.


Hospitality: April Herrbolt, hospitality@erpta.org*

Responsible for organizing the refreshments for the first day of school Welcome Back Coffee as well as for the PTA Program Nights throughout the year.

Skills or Interests: baking and preparing food items, assisting in set-up and clean-up after the events.


Ice Cream Social: VP Events or Heidi Springer

The yearly Ice Cream Social is usually held in the spring during the East Ridge Learning Celebration. May-June 2012.


Membership: Maureen Wilson, membership@erpta.org

Membership is available to individuals for $13 or couples for $22.The Membership Chair promotes PTA at East Ridge and handles the registration of members with the local and state PTA offices. Check out our Membership page.


Nominating Committee: President or nominate@erpta.org

This very important committee helps to recruit potential officers to fill board vacancies at the end of each spring

Skills or Interests: recruiting, helping to utilize volunteer skillsets.


Newsletter: Tamara Dowd, newsletter@erpta.org

The PTA Newsletter is published online once a month during the school year.

Skills or interests: writing, providing reports on upcoming events or classroom news items.


Playground Volunteers: President or playground@erpta.org

Playground volunteers assist the Recess Advisors in monitoring the play ground and field during recesses. This committee will work together to provide support at the different recess times through-out the week.

Skills or Interests: cheerful attitude, an eye for student safety, will receive further instructions from East Ridge Staff.


Popcorn Friday: VP Programs or popcorn@erpta.org

Prepare and serve popcorn on select Fridays from October through June. This is a fun way to encourage and reward our students for their hard work through-out the year.

Reflections: VP Programs or reflections @erpta.org

Be a part of a nation-wide art completion. Training is provided through Washington State PTA!

For 2011-2012, the theme is “Diversity Is…” Categories of art accepted in the program are: Visual Art, Photography, Literature, Music Composition, Dance/Choreography and Film/Video Production. Fall Program.

School Play: VP Programs or Julie Vandehey, schoolplay@erpta.org

The East Ridge Elementary is a huge production, utilizing volunteers with a wide variety of skill sets. All interested parents are encouraged to contact the school play chairperson and she will help to find a place for you to serve.

Skills or Interests: registration, costumes, set design, music, and so much more!


School Beautification: President

Want to help keep our school looking good? Help with gardening, or maybe even a small project. This committee is on call to help with tasks and projects as they arise.

Skills or Interests: gardening, handy man projects.


Spelling Bee: VP Events or Mary Mulkins, spellingbee@erpta.org

Three Bees will be held in January 2012. 1st & 2nd Grade Bee, 3rd & 4th Grade Bee and 5th & 6th Grade Bee.  Exact dates TBD. Time 3.15 – 5.00pm.

Skills or Interests: registration, organization and seating of children before Spelling Bee.


Staff Appreciation: VP Events or Jessica Smith, appreciation@erpta.org

Help us show our appreciation to our East Ridge Staff. There are never enough ways to tsay thanks. Staff & Teacher Appreciation Week is tentatively scheduled for a week in May 2012.

Skills or interests: preparing or baking food items, creative ideas for saying thanks.

Help plan, find prizes, take in funds, and make our most important fundraiser a success. We are always looking to improve our fundraising endeavors.

Skills or Interests: event planning, prize and supplies purchasing, seeking business donations, field prep, set-up and take-down at event, working at the water table, chaperoning classes on field.
